Description

Chinese smoked black tea

The tea originates from the Wuji Mountain region of Fujian and is considered Wuji tea (bohea).

This black tea gets a unique note from the smoke of high-quality Chinese wood. Lapsang Souchong is made from Camellia sinensis leaves like other real teas. With the fact that the production of this tea stands out from the others because the leaves are smoked.

The leaves of the tea plant are smoked over a pine wood fire. This smoking is done in a couple of ways. In the form of “cold smoke” – raw leaves are smoked in the processing, or as “hot smoke” – it is smoked from a previously processed leaf (a leaf that has oxidized).

The intensity of the smoke varies, and can be varied and “tuned”. Leafs can be located closer or further away from heat and smoke sources. There is also the determination of the duration of the smoking process. The flavor and aroma of smoked lapsang have been described as wood smoke, pine resin, smoked paprika, meat or dried longan.

This black tea can be mixed with milk if desired. It can also be sweetened with sugar. Although it is practiced less often. We recommend that you try the tea first without any additives, so that you can choose what to add to your own taste.

In addition to being consumed as tea, lapsang is sometimes used as an addition to soups and sauces or as a spice in some other ways.
