French press
French press, also known as a cafetière, press pot or coffee press, is a coffee brewing device. Although it can also be very useful for making loose leaf tea.
The earliest known device was patented in 1852 in France. But, over the years it has undergone many modifications. The modern French press consists of a narrow cylindrical beaker, usually made of glass or clear plastic, equipped with a metal, plastic or in our case bamboo lid. And a metal strainer that fits tightly in the cylinder and has a fine stainless steel wire.
French press can be used in place of a tea infuser to brew loose leaf tea.
Important thing to pay attention to is the timing. As with all tea “strainers”, cups or teapots, it is not good for tea to steep for too long. This causes the tea to taste bitter. It is advisable, after the recommended steeping time for a certain tea has passed, to pour it over into another vessel.
Also, don’t use the press for both coffee and tea. Because coffee or tea residue may spoil the flavor of the other. It is ideal for both bigger and whole leaf, and broken and smaller leaf.
