Description
“Eight treasures” green tea
A blend of green tea (85%), cranberry, green tea with rice (3%), red rose petals, yellow rose buds, pink rose buds and marigold petals.
The basis of this mixture is green Sencha tea. Unlike many teas that are processed by “baking” their leaves, i.e. heating them in large pans or specialized machines. For this green tea, they use steam as a form of heat. This method of leaf processing preserves more of the herbal, fresh flavors that Sencha is known for.
The steaming process can take about 40-80 seconds. This is the standard steaming time. While of course, on the other hand, there are producers who have specific times for that process (much shorter or much longer than usual) in order to get the desired flavor profile.
Genmaicha
The other green tea in this blend is Genmaicha. It is a mixture of green tea and roasted rice. It has a characteristic taste, specific appearance and mild aroma. The very name of the tea translates to “Brown rice tea”.
Genmaicha is a tea that is also called “people’s tea”, because at a time when many could not afford tea, it was created as an affordable version for poor people. It was also very useful in people who were fasting and those who had long breaks between meals.
Rice contributes to the warmth of the taste of this tea, and enriches it with full, nutty notes. Therefore, the taste is mild, and is a combination of green grassy notes and the taste of roasted rice. Also, it is considered easy and pleasant on the stomach.
Rose and calendula petals and buds add to the enchanting look of this blend, making it the perfect bouquet in a cup of tea. While cranberry and fruity aroma contribute to the sweet note that permeates this blend.
