Description

Chamomile tea

Chamomile has many folk names, and the most common name besides chamomile in Serbia is “titrica”. Dried chamomile flowers are used for tea. It belongs to medicinal plants, and is one of the most popular for making tea, next to mint. This herbal tea is caffeine-free, and is perfect for the evening hours both because of that and because of its calming effect.

The ingredient of chamomile to which it owes the majority of its healing effect is the essential oil, which is distinctly blue in color, and is very sensitive and evaporates easily. It is blue due to the high content of azulene derivatives, and for this reason preparations with chamomile have a blue color.

Azulene derivatives are responsible for the anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects of chamomile. In addition to essential oil, it also contains other medicinal substances (eg polyphenols, flavonoids, folic acids, phytosterols and many other substances). The antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects of chamomile help with various infections and inflammations on the skin and mucous membranes. For example inflammation of the gums, digestive organs, urogenital system. As well as wounds or skin irritations. The antispasmodic effect of chamomile can help relieve pain and spasms, as well as rheumatic pain and stomach problems. In general, it soothes inflammatory processes, softens and nourishes tissue. Among other things, chamomile was traditionally used for insomnia, restlessness and nervousness.
