Rooibos tea, also known as red tea, comes from a bush that grows in South Africa. The name is derived from rooi bos (Afrikaans), which means ‘red bush’. It is known as rooibos, bush tea, red tea or red bush tea.
The leaves of the bush are used to make herbal tea. Rooibos is usually prepared like other more classic herbal teas. Pour hot water, and infuse for a certain time. It can be drunk without adding anything else, but lemon, sugar, honey, etc. can be added to it according to individual taste. It can also be used to make iced tea.
More about rooibos
This plant is commonly grown in the Cederberg, a small mountainous area in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Generally, leaves undergo oxidation. This process produces the characteristic reddish-brown color of rooibos and improves the taste. It is rich in minerals such as manganese, magnesium and zinc. Pure rooibos tea has a mild taste, with sweet, earthy or woody notes. This mixture is additionally enriched with dried fruits and various herbs that contribute to the sweetness.
It does not contain caffeine, so it can be recommended to everyone, regardless of age. Many people buy rooibos breeze for children (as well as other rooibos blends with fruits and other herbs) as something healthy and new, for a pleasant introduction to teas. Also thanks to the fact that it does not contain caffeine, it can be recommended for any time of the day or night. Many people like to drink it in the evening, when its pleasant taste can be the perfect addition to evening relaxation.
