Description

Black tea for lords

A blend of black tea with aromatic bergamot and blue flower petals (*mallow flowers, cornflower-blue petals*).

Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) is a citrus tree that is most often found on the coast of Italy and France. It is mostly grown in Calabria (Italy), which accounts for about 90% of the world production of bergamot oil. Bergamot essential oil is added to black tea to make Earl Gray. Also, bergamot is found in other similar blends like our “Tea for Lords” .

Black tea with bergamot gained its popularity a long time ago. And is still one of the most popular teas today.

There are numerous versions of the story, of how the original black tea with bergamot – Earl Gray – was created. It is most often associated with the English aristocrat Charles Grey.

The most popular versions of the story are:

  • Earl Gray tea was created by accidental mixing of bergamot and tea during shipment from China to England
  • The tea mixture was made for Gray by a Chinese man, whose life Lord Charles Gray have saved
  • Charles Gray was given tea with oil of bergamot as a diplomatic allowance. Possibly as a result of ending the monopoly held by the East India Company on trade between China and Britain

Over time, various variations of this tea were created, which in addition to the two basic ingredients also include flower petals. Through the roses, then to the petals of the blue flower, as is the case in this particular blend.

Some of the more famous classic black teas are used as a base for black tea with bergamot. For example Ceylon or Darjeeling. After drying and oxidation, the tea leaves are then flavored with bergamot oil, and petals are added to them, while some are dried with the petals.

Black tea with bergamot (Earl Gray and Tea for Lords) is used as a flavoring for many types of cakes, chocolates, as well as for savory sauces. While bergamot is often used as an ingredient in perfumes.

In addition to this black tea with bergamot, you can also find classic Earl Gray with us.
