It is an important part of Chinese culture and has been a part of everyday life since ancient times. It is traditionally used to make many items. In ancient China, bamboo was used to make a variety of products, from arrows, baskets, writing scrolls, pens and paper, to boats, shoes and more.

Generally bamboo is of great importance in Asia, as it is used for building materials and also as food. It is  depicted in art, such as bamboo paintings and bamboo work.
