Description
Assam black tea
Black tea from the Assam region of India contains carefully processed leaves with golden tips. It is an excellent choice for morning hours. Black teas from this area, or teas that are blends with Assam tea, are often sold as “breakfast” teas. Examples are Irish breakfast and English breakfast. People often drink that kind of teas itself with milk.
We, on the other hand, always recommend drinking tea without any additives in order to feel its true taste. At least when trying a certain type of tea for the first time. So we better know the tea, and we find what we personally would like to add to that tea (milk, honey, sugar, lemon, orange, etc.).
Assam is one of the largest tea growing regions. It lies on both sides of the Brahmaputra River and borders Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and is very close to China. In this part of India, around the monsoon period, there are heavy rains, and with that the temperature rises to around 36 °C. This creates conditions like a glass garden, extreme humidity and heat. This tropical climate contributes to the unique taste of Assam tea.
Assam, like India itself, is known for its strong black teas, with deep and sharp notes. Production mostly consists of black teas, while green teas are somewhat more characteristic of China or Japan.
Although green tea is rarer in India than in China or Japan, you can find Assam green tea on our shelves alongside Assam tea, which has an unusually delicate note.
