Description
Matcha bowl – embossed
“Made of dust ceramics”
Handmade bowl for matcha tea, volume cca. 350 ml. The design is characterized by slightly conical walls and a unique embossed decor, which gives each one its uniqueness and personal touch. The cups were made “each one individually”, on the potter’s wheel, from gray clay and glazed with a satin matt white glaze. The “House of Tea” logo is imprinted on the outer wall of the cup and visually accentuated by the absence of glaze. The shape and size of the cup allow for a comfortable grip when mixing and serving tea.
There are various types of matcha bowls. Although any cup or bowl of similar shape and width can serve as a matcha bowl, they actually have a few key characteristics.
• Shape •
The shape of Japanese matcha bowls is more cylindrical compared to regular ones. There must be plenty of room for strokes with the whisk, which this shape allows. The shape of our embossed matcha bowl is most similar to the so-called Han Tsutsu-gata shape (semi-cylindrical type).
• Pattern •
Matcha cups (bowls) have a pattern on one side. This pattern has a significant role in the tea ceremony. As a sign of respect, while drinking tea, it is important that we turn away the pattern/design away from us towards others, so that they can see the most beautiful side of the bowl.
• Clay •
Traditionally, heavy clay is used for matcha bowls, which requires holding the bowl with two hands. In this way, the person also focuses on drinking tea and enjoying it.
In addition to the green matcha bowl, you can also find a matcha whisk here.
